Wooden Baskets

Beauty meets functional. Baskets cut from a variety of woods.

Wooden baskets were among my earliest attempts at art. I love exploring how 2 dimensional geometric patterns can result in amazing 3 dimensional shapes as these baskets come together. These pieces allow me to explore symmetry and depth. I really enjoy the lines, shadows and textures that result.

My process starts with math which gives way to drawing and then a fiery interlude wherein laser meets wood. This in turn gives way to the hands which transform the 2 dimensional results into 3-dimensional wonders.

The stacked baskets take a bit of time for me to make but it is worth it to the metamorphosis from flat to spectacular. The spiral designs took many revisions in order to get the spirals to lay perfectly upon the legs.

Finished baskets are available in several Malibu Locations including Malibu BUngalos and Creo Arthouse. Also available at Cartwheels in Cottonwood AZ.
