Show Recap
Kit’s show was a smash. His art is mega creative and I was glad to be part of it. All my stuff worked without issue and people seemed into the pieces, though properly hesitant to touch the art (which is normally a no-no). Note to self: if having interactive stuff in a show, put up signs to encourage the interaction.
The “Art of Surf” show was also fun. The folks who curated the show, picked a slew of great stuff (despite the poor form they showed by including me). I am amazed to be included with such goodly work. My piece was well displayed. The only negative on the reception was that ants found the cookie table before most of the crowd did. Luckily, the ever-observant Nate was on hand to warn me. Here is a bit of video of my piece in action that I took at the event. The music in he vid is a song I am working on. The drum track is MIA and is reason for building the song. I found it interesting without the drums so enjoy ( or not).
Clocks
In preparation for returning to the Tracy Park Gallery (soon-ish), I started working on word clocks again. I have several paths: 1) make more clocks, 2)rework the clocks in inventory to repair the damaged, 3) change out the “black led” faced ones with a face that is more appealing. That diffuser, while neat, was not a strong seller.
Digging through my supplies, I found some interesting metallic / foil paper stock which may make for a goodly face. The issue is cutting the face shape (letters in a rounded square) without leaving a ton of smoke residue. The smoke is typically welcomed in my wooden pieces but is unwelcome here. I have been playing with different methods of cutting in an attempt to minimize the residue. Also playing with post cutting processes to remove the residue. I am getting there with some materials. Here are small clocks made with some metallic blue and green paper faces. One is a rework of an older “black led” faced clock, the other is new.
I also started on a new idea for a word clock. This one is mechanical. It puts the words onto 2 cylinders that move to show the time. Still a work in progress. The parts have been designed but not cut or assembled. The code, which is a mashup of other clock code and the code for kit’s slot machine, has been written but not tested. Soon though…..
