Uber-Gruntled

Last weekend was Topanga Canyon Gallery’s Artist Studio Tour. It was great but exhausting. Frantic week prior sorting and updating pieces, then setup, 2 days of fun and then fitting all of that back into the car and unpacking here. It was great meeting so many people and being able to talk about my work. I took a wide range of work, will probably reduce quantity and scope next year.

I had intended to set up a make your own art station for kids and grownups but was overwhelmed and never quite got to it. It happened anyway when kids spotted the scraps. Ended up sending a few boxes of prime bits home with some families, and a few “kits” of unassembled butterflies that I had tucked in. I also found some others that might be useful to some other artists.

I had many questions about my laser.t I use a Glowforge and I do recommend. This code will get you a discount (https://glowforge.us/f/CMPZIYHT) if you are thinking of buying one.

I also had questions about the electronics behind my work. I use arduino-like devices. Mostly the Adafruit trinket M0 for the clocks and smaller projects or the PJRC Teensy series to push the big matrix projects. Both of these are lightyears beyond the original arduino “uno” in terms of capability and performance.

The best part of the weekend was watching how kids interacted with the wormhole. I had to remove nose prints many times.

It was great to share the space at Rosewood with some great artists including Rebecca Catterall, Trudy Perry, and Kelsey Zwang. Kelsey managed to make this wonder fish over the course of the weekend out of some of my laser scraps. I often found myself looking at a scrap piece and thinking, “what was I making that caused this?”
